Description
This is a self paced, online course approved for Landscape Irrigators, Inspectors, and Technicians. Students will receive a certificate and 8 hours CEU credit toward TCEQ license renewals for successfully completing the course.
Ability to read and understand technical instructional material.
Students must be able to read course materials, follow written explanations, and understand basic technical terminology related to water use and conservation.
Current or prior involvement in irrigation, landscaping, or water-related work or education.
This course is intended for individuals working in, studying, or otherwise engaged in irrigation, landscaping, water management, or related fields.
Goals:
1. Provide the student with an understanding of Texas water resources and the importance of water conservation. This course is intended to educate students on water supply limitations, population growth impacts, drought conditions, and the need for responsible water management practices in Texas.
2. Explain fundamental water conservation principles applicable to landscape and outdoor water use. The course presents conservation concepts focused on reducing water waste, improving efficiency, protecting water quality, and supporting sustainable use of available water resources.
3. Introduce water-efficient products, technologies, and conservation programs. Students will be exposed to water conservation products, drought-tolerant landscape practices, rainwater harvesting concepts, and conservation programs such as EPA WaterSense and local water utility initiatives.
4. Increase the student’s awareness of methods used to identify water waste and conservation opportunities. The course explains the purpose and role of water audits, evaluations, and system reviews as tools for identifying inefficiencies and promoting improved water conservation outcomes.
5. Prepare the student to recognize and respond to drought conditions using conservation-focused practices. Students will gain an understanding of drought impacts, drought response strategies, native and drought-tolerant plant selection, and conservation measures consistent with regional and local water management goals.
